Framework first named by Danielle Ralston (MBA · MSW · ADHD-CCSP · PhD(c) · Master ADHD Coach), Founder of ND Hive. Published May 2026 at ndhive.com/hive/frameworks/good-better-best-days/.
What Is Good / Better / Best Days?
The Good / Better / Best Days framework is the ND Hive proprietary capacity-aware operating model. It says ADHD capacity moves on a curve, and the right strategy depends on which kind of day you are actually having, not which kind of day you wish you were having.
This framework lives in the Capacity Stack. It is the operating philosophy that pairs with the 5 EF Blockers diagnostic.
Best Days are for output. Better Days are for supported effort. Good Days are for survival, regulation, and body doubling so the next day can be different.
The Three Day Types
Best Day. You initiate without friction. Thoughts become action. The signal is firing, the fuel is high, the world is cooperating. This is the rare and beautiful day to ship hard things.
Better Day. Resistance is real, but you can push through with support. Body doubling helps. Timers help. Structure helps. Your activation system is firing, just not strongly. This is the most common day.
Good Day, the one nobody understands. You cannot start. Not because you will not. Because you cannot. This is where executive dysfunction lives. Traditional advice (make a list, break it down) actively makes things worse on this day. This is the day the standard productivity world has no language for, and the day where most ADHD adults blame themselves the hardest.
What This Looks Like in Daily Life
Monday you cleared the inbox, wrote the proposal, and went for a run. That was a Best Day. You felt impressive.
Tuesday you got through your meetings, finished one project with the help of a coworker, and put off the harder thing. That was a Better Day. You felt fine.
Wednesday you sat at your laptop for two hours and did not open a single document. That was a Good Day. You felt like a failure.
None of these were character. All three were capacity-on-the-day reports. The framework names what most ADHD adults have been calling “inconsistency” or “moods” for years.
Why Standard Advice Fails Here
Standard productivity advice assumes capacity is constant. It treats every day like a Best Day and tells you to push harder when you do not deliver.
For ADHD brains, this is the wrong assumption. Pushing a Good Day with Best Day strategies produces shame, not output. Pushing a Better Day with Best Day strategies produces burnout. The fix is not more discipline. The fix is naming the day you are actually having and matching the strategy.
What Helps
- Name the day in the morning. Best, Better, or Good. Take thirty seconds to be honest about which one you are running. Plan accordingly.
- Best Days are for output. Use them. Tackle the hardest tasks. Do not waste them on email triage.
- Better Days are for supported effort. Body double. Use timers. Lower the activation cost of everything. This is your most common day, so design defaults for it.
- Good Days are for survival. Regulation, rest, body doubling for ANY motion. The work on a Good Day is to not damage tomorrow. That is enough.
- Track patterns. If Good Days are stacking, you are heading into Stage 2 or 3 of the ADHD Burnout Spiral. The framework gives you advance warning if you are watching for it.

The Bottom Line
You are not inconsistent. You are running a brain whose capacity moves. The framework is not permission to give up on hard days. It is permission to match the work to the actual day.
People who learn Good / Better / Best stop hating Good Days. They stop wasting Best Days. And they stop confusing Better Days with failure.
