The Decision Tax: The ND Hive Framework for Neurodivergent Decision Fatigue

Why ND brains run out of choices before the day is done, and how to stop paying rent on every open decision.

Short definition

The Decision Tax is the cumulative cost an ND brain pays for every unmade decision left open. Each undecided choice keeps a tab running in the background, drawing on working memory and energy whether or not you are actively thinking about it. Enough open tabs and you hit decision fatigue: out of choices, frozen on small things, long before the day is over.

Where it sits

It is an executive-function sibling of Cognitive Holding Space and one close-up on the 5 Executive Function Blockers. Where Cognitive Holding Space is about what your working memory can hold at once, the Decision Tax is about what unresolved choices cost while they sit open.

How it works

Every open decision charges rent. The fix is to close tabs: pre-decide recurring choices, set defaults, collapse branches, and move the heaviest decisions to the front of the day when you have the most to spend. You are not lazy when you stall on a small choice by evening. You have simply run out of the resource the day kept taxing.

How to work with it

Find the recurring decisions draining you, pre-decide them once, and protect your highest-capacity window for the choices that actually need judgment. The full how-to is in the article.
