The Helper’s Edge: The ND Hive Framework for ND Clinicians, Coaches, and Organizers

For the neurodivergent helper who carries clients home. Build the edge that lets you keep doing this work without losing yourself.

Short definition

The Helper’s Edge is a structure for neurodivergent helping professionals (clinicians, coaches, organizers) who over-merge with clients whose patterns mirror their own. It has three parts: scope (where your role ends and referral begins), capacity (the real caseload and energy ceiling you can sustain), and boundaries (rules set while regulated so they hold while depleted).

Where it sits

It applies the same capacity-and-boundary logic ND Hive teaches members, turned toward the helper. It pairs with The Support Team (the helper needs their own seats filled too) and the distinction in coaching versus therapy.

The three parts

Scope. A written line: my role is ____, my role is not ____. Refer out what crosses it.

Capacity. A real, lower-than-aspirational ceiling on caseload and emotionally heavy sessions, because empathy spends regulation fuel that recharges slowly.

Boundaries. Response windows and between-session rules decided once, while steady, so depleted-you does not have to make the call at 9 p.m.

How to work with it

Write your scope line, set a real capacity number, build a referral list before you need it, and put your own support on the map. The paired Helper’s Boundary Workbook is in the article.
