💪 Which ADHD Strengths Are Yours?
A quiz from ND Hive. Companion to “ADHD Strengths: How to Weaponize Them”
What this is
ADHD strengths are not “superpowers.” They are real cognitive differences that, in the right context, do work that neurotypical brains cannot. This quiz identifies which of the 6 ADHD strengths are yours so you can stop apologizing for them and start deploying them.
Takes 6 minutes.
How this works
For each statement, rate how true it is for you (1 = not at all, 5 = always). Tally per strength at the end.
Strength 1: Hyperfocus / Deep Work
- I can lose hours in a project I find interesting: _____
- When I’m in flow, my output is significantly above average: _____
- I produce my best work in concentrated sessions, not steady daily effort: _____
- Other people are impressed by what I produce when I’m dialed in: _____
Hyperfocus subtotal: _____ / 20
Strength 2: Pattern Recognition
- I see connections between unrelated things faster than others: _____
- I notice things in environments / data / conversations that others miss: _____
- I can synthesize disparate inputs into one insight: _____
- People come to me to “see what they’re missing”: _____
Pattern Recognition subtotal: _____ / 20
Strength 3: Crisis Performance
- I am calmer in crisis than I am in calm: _____
- I make good decisions under pressure: _____
- I can think clearly when others are panicking: _____
- I am drawn to high-stakes problems: _____
Crisis Performance subtotal: _____ / 20
Strength 4: Idea Generation / Divergent Thinking
- My brain produces ideas faster than I can capture them: _____
- I’m the “brainstorm person” in groups: _____
- I see multiple paths where others see one: _____
- I make creative leaps that others find surprising: _____
Idea Generation subtotal: _____ / 20
Strength 5: Empathy / Emotional Sensitivity
- I read people accurately, fast: _____
- I sense the emotional undertone of a room before words are spoken: _____
- People feel seen / understood by me: _____
- I get drawn into helping others through hard things: _____
Empathy subtotal: _____ / 20
Strength 6: Resilience / Adaptability
- I have rebuilt my life from scratch more than once: _____
- Change does not destabilize me long-term, even when it hurts in the moment: _____
- I am the “well, here we go” person when things fall apart: _____
- I have survived things that should have broken me: _____
Resilience subtotal: _____ / 20
Your top 2 strengths
Identify your two highest scorers.
#1 Strength: ___________________________________________ (score: ___ /20)
#2 Strength: ___________________________________________ (score: ___ /20)
What to do with each strength
If Hyperfocus is your top strength:
Deploy: Carve protected deep-work blocks. Say no to fragmenting your time. Pair with strict recovery rules so you don’t crash. Costs to manage: Time blindness, neglected basics during hyperfocus, post-session crash.
If Pattern Recognition is your top strength:
Deploy: Strategic / consulting / analytical roles. Synthesizing fields. Pattern-spotting in data, behavior, systems. Costs to manage: Frustration when others can’t see what you see. Need to learn to communicate the patterns step-by-step.
If Crisis Performance is your top strength:
Deploy: Roles that include real stakes. ER work. Founder / CEO / startup. Project rescue. Anywhere “calm in chaos” is paid. Costs to manage: You may unconsciously CREATE crises to feel functional. Steady-state work feels like death.
If Idea Generation is your top strength:
Deploy: Creative roles, founding, R&D, brainstorm leadership, content creation, anywhere ideation is the product. Costs to manage: You need an executor partner / system. Without one, none of the ideas ship.
If Empathy is your top strength:
Deploy: Coaching, therapy, leadership, sales (the consultative kind), community building, advocacy. Costs to manage: Emotional labor cost. Boundary work. Risk of running yourself dry on other people’s emotions.
If Resilience is your top strength:
Deploy: Anywhere requiring survival of repeated change. Founders. Activists. Researchers in long-arc fields. Long-term creative careers. Costs to manage: You may have been resilient because you had to be. Don’t rebuild for change you don’t actually want.
The deeper move
Most ND adults can name 50 things they’re “bad at” and zero things they’re built for. Reverse the ratio.
Your top 2 strengths are real cognitive advantages. Arrange your life so they get DEPLOYED, not just discovered. Career, projects, daily structure should center them. Things that don’t activate your strengths should be outsourced, automated, or quit.
You don’t have to be good at everything. You have to be deployed where you ARE good.
