The ADHD coaching platform that beat your seventh planner app

A companion to the main ADHD article, written for college students.

You have downloaded four planner apps this semester, color coded a bullet journal for exactly one week, and your syllabus deadlines still live in three different places, none of which you check. The problem was never the app.

What this actually is

ADHD coaching platforms pair you with accountability and structure that adapts to how your brain actually works, instead of handing you another blank template and hoping willpower fills it in. The tool is not the fix. The relationship and the check ins are.

How it shows up

In college, you are building your own structure for the first time with no parent checking if homework got done, and every app you try assumes you already have the executive function to use the app consistently, which is the exact skill you are missing. You start strong on a new system during syllabus week, and by week four it is a graveyard of unchecked boxes. Group projects fall apart because you cannot self manage without someone else in the loop.

What actually helps

Look for a platform built around body doubling or live accountability, not just another task list. Prioritize check ins over features, since a five minute daily text that asks what is one thing today beats a beautifully designed dashboard you abandon by Thursday. Pick something with external memory built in, so it pings you instead of expecting you to remember to open it. Test anything for two weeks before paying for a year, because the honeymoon phase with a new system lies to you every single time.

Also separate the coaching piece from the app piece in your head. A calendar app cannot notice you have not opened your laptop in three days. A person or a system built for accountability can.

One move today

Pick one deadline this week and set up a single accountability check in for it, a friend, a coach, a library body doubling session, anything with another human attached. Do not build a new system first.

The bottom line: you do not need a better app, you need a better loop, and a loop needs someone else in it.
